SEVERINO DEBUT WAS A BEAUT

It would have been nice if he got the W instead of a hard luck loss.

It would have helped if Headley didn’t make his 18th error leading to the first run of the game (unearned)

It would have been great if the Yankee bats, that had been so hot of late, did not knuckle under to the Bosox Steven Wright.

But make no mistake about it, this was a successful debut for Luis Severino the 21 year old Yankee Uber-Prospect.

His demeanor was the first thing that impressed. Right from the outset he looked confident and locked-in.

He challenged every hitter, and there wasn’t even a hint of fear or uncertainty.

Severino was all business and in control. You would never have known it was his first major league start.

His final line …

5 INNINGS, 2 HITS, 2 RUNS, 1 EARNED RUN, 0 BB / 7K

The Fast Ball was in the mid- 90’s all game. He dialed it up as high as 98 mph.

Early on he threw mostly 2 pitches .. Fast Balls & Sliders. Then he starting mixing in his Circle Change.

*The best part of his performance, was that as good as it was, (and the Yankees would sign for that stat line every time )

you get the feeling we have not seen the best of Luis Severino. Not even close.

As Paul O’Neill accurately pointed out during the broadcast, his Change Up needs some refinement.

Like the old saying “less is more”, he needs to take a little off the velocity of his Circle Change which averaged 89 mph.

A little less velocity would provide more movement on the pitch and also more separation in speed from his Fast Ball.*

You have to absolutely love the 7 Strike Outs / 0 Walks !!

It was a very solid first outing.

Keep in mind he is only 21 years old.

Luis Severino has arrived ..and the best is yet to come.
