SMALL BALL .. BIG WIN

The Yankees won yet another series, taking 2 of 3 ( July 6-8) from the Toronto Blue Jays. They did it the hard way by dropping the first game 6-2 as Sonny Gray (5-7) imploded, allowing 5 runs in just 2.0 innings. The Yanks bounced back in the middle game of the series as Luis Severino earned his mlb best 14th win (14-2), as Brett Gardner & Aaron Judge lead off the game with back to back home runs off of trade-target J.A. Happ who took the loss (10-5) allowing 6 runs in only 2.2 innings.

The Bombers won the rubber game by playing small ball. Domingo German held the Jays scoreless until the 6th inning when Kendrys Morales homered to tie the game at one. The score stayed tied until the top of the 10th inning when Tyler Clippard hit Greg Bird with a pitch to start the inning. Tyler Wade pinch ran for Bird. Austin Romine sacrifice bunted Wade to 2nd base, setting the stage for Brett Gardner. Brett lined a single the other way to left field, and Wade who has blazing speed, motored around 3rd and scored ahead of the throw home as the Yanks went on to win 2-1. Green came away with the win (5-1), and DRob got the save (2) as Aroldis Chapman was not available (knee). Clippard took the loss (4-3).
