WELL PLAY_ED

“PLAYER’S WEEKEND” was a sweeping success for the NY Yankees, as they won four straight from the Orioles in Baltimore (Friday 8/24, double-header Sat. 8/25, Sunday 8/26).

Since the debacle in Beantown, the Yankees went 15-5 in their next 20 games…sweeping the 3 game series in Chicago over the White Sox, came home and took 3 of 4 from Texas, then lost a make-up game to the Mets when deGrom out pitched Severino, and dropped 2 of 3 to the Rays, before rebounding and sweeping Toronto 3 straight, splitting a short 2 game set with the Marlins in Miami, before heading to Camden Yards.

Key injuries keep mounting as SS Didi Gregorius went on the DL after a collision running down the 1B line in the Toronto series, and Closer Aroldis Chapman also landed on the DL after leaving a game in Miami with pain from an on-going condition ..knee tendinitis. Greg Bird continues to struggle mightily, leading some to think that he too might be hiding an injury, as his batting average is still below .200. Luke Voit, who the Yankees picked up in a July trade with the Cardinals, is taking advantage of the opportunity at 1B with 4 Homers and 7 RBIs in his last 4 games.

Yes, the Yanks are beating up on sub-.500 teams, and let a few games get away from them with sloppy play, but since the Red Sox beat-down the Yankees have proved resilient (as predicted here), and continue to win despite having key players out of the lineup.

In fact the Yanks have closed the gap on the Red Sox, as they have won 8 of 10 while Boston has lost 6 of 10.

All things considered, Well PLAY-ed .. indeed

As always,

Go NYY !!
