The Yankees celebrated the first day of summer by sweeping the Seattle Mariners three straight (June 19-21), finishing up a very successful home-stand in which they won 7 of 9 games to increase their MLB best record to 50-22.
Sweeping the M’s was no easy task considering they were a hot team coming in 20 games over .500. The Bombers hit 8 Homers in the series, got solid starting pitching and absolutely outstanding work from the bullpen who have a 0.71 ERA in their last 17 games dating back to June 4th. They have won 4 in a row, and 17 of their last 21.
The Yanks go on the road for 3 games vs. TB & 3 vs. Philadelphia before returning home to play the Red Sox who they now have a 2 game lead over.
I won’t nitpick and remind everyone that the Yankees still need to trade for a top starting pitcher & also need to become less dependent on the HR, and improve with situational hitting.
Summer is heating up and so are the hopes of die-hard fans as the Yankees .694 winning% projects out to 113 wins on the season !!
