It has only been 15 games, and I’m not one to form opinions based on small sample sizes, but I have seen enough to say ..

GLEYBER TORRES IS HERE TO STAY !!

Why? Because in a short amount of time Gleber has shown that he is mature well beyond his years (21 years old , DOB 12/13/96)  Gleyber Torres was called up by the Yankees 15 games ago. It is not a coincidence that the Yankees have won 15 of their last 16 games.

The 6’1″ 2B not only has a .327 BA / .357 On Base% / OPS .857 , but has played superb defensively. That is why I feel that he is here to stay. Even if he went into a slump at the plate, his fielding is so solid at 2B, he could still help the team win with his glove.

Gleyber seems to have that clutch gene. He also has a high baseball IQ. He learns quickly by his mistakes. He makes adjustments at the plate (sometimes within the same AB). He’s special. He is a difference maker on both sides of the ball.

Contrast that with another highly touted prospect Miguel Andujar at 3B. He was called up 27 games ago. Miguel had extra base hits in 7 consecutive games before the age of 24 years old, putting him on an elite list with Mickey Mantle (1955) & Joe Dimaggio (1937). Currently he is hitting .274 w 12 2B, 1 3B & 3 HRs. But I wouldn’t make the same claim that Andujar is here to stay because he has been a bit streaky, and also needs to take walks and learn plate discipline, but more importantly needs to show that he can consistently make the plays defensively.

Once again..
