This video clip concentrates on two fundamental aspects of the game that I have been preaching about for a number of years. They have had a profound positive impact on the 2017 Yankees.
FUNDAMENTAL (Offense) : Yankee hitters are hitting the ball up the middle / gap to gap, using all fields much more than in the recent past. Aaron Judge epitomizes this new approach, and is doing something unique for a home run hitter. Many commentators are still trying to figure out exactly what he is doing. In this June 15th clip, there is a flashback to a previous episode where I am giving in depth analysis, which goes all the way back to April 20th !! You will soon see others copying my thoughts & analysis.
FUNDAMENTAL (Pitching) : Yankee pitchers need to mix their pitch selection. Specifically Michael Pineda and Luis Severino were 2 pitch starters last year (FB, SL) and their combined record as starters was 6-20. This spring training the narrative was something I have been harping on. Throw the change-up more often. When they have incorporated their c/u from the 1st inning of games, they have dominated. Examples are given in great detail in the clip.
I sum up my thoughts by pointing out that the success of this season has less to do with player procurement and more to do with a shift in fundamental philosophy. In other words it is .. Less about Dollars and more about Sense.
I love the Yankees, and I love when the game is played the right way. There are many savvy Yankee fans that feel the same way as I do.
