Chase Headley is out today (5/1). Yankees have Torreyes playing 3rd base. Unfortunately, it’s not surprising to me after watching Sunday’s game versus the Baltimore Orioles where Chase made a throwing error to 1st base. More than that, there were several plays where he bobbled the ball because he was concerned about the throw he needed to make. As we all know, Chase has suffered mightily with this problem. In 2015 he made 23 errors. Last year he improved, cutting the errors to 10. But this year you can see the look in his face, he’s not comfortable making routine throws to any of the bases. Headley got off to a great start at the plate batting over .400 early on in the season. Although he has cooled off, he’s still batting a very solid .301. You just hope that his defensive problems don’t negatively affect his offensive production. Girardi picked a good time to give Headley a mental rest day. Like Yogi said, the game is 90% mental (the other half is physical)!
