The news was sad but not unexpected.

Lawrence Peter “Yogi”  Berra passed away on Wednesday September 23rd 2015

at the age of 90.

He lived a life that one could only dream of.

A hero on the Baseball Field winning 10 World Series Rings

for the N.Y. Yankees (more than anyone else to ever play the game)

But more importantly he was a Hero on the Battle Field,

as a part of the D-Day Invasion on June 6, 1944 as a member

of the U.S. Navy.

He earned a Purple Heart before ever playing one game

on the Major League level.

Not only was Yogi  beloved by Yankee fans everywhere, he was

admired and respected .. and quoted all around the world.

GR8 TRIBUTE :

Before the Thursday Sept. 24th home series opener against the White Sox the Yankees

honored Yogi who passed away at 90 years old.

Prior to first pitch Joe Girardi and the teams catchers placed a

floral #8 wreath at home plate.

Both teams lined up outside the dugout as a touching video

tribute was shown on the center field scoreboard.

It was a classy, and fitting tribute  for the Yankee Legend

who earned 3 MVP awards to go along with his 10 World Series

Championships as  a Yankee player from 1946-1963

The U.S. Navy said farewell to a ship-mate with a beautiful rendition

of Taps.

The Yankees will wear a #8 patch on their uniform for the rest of the season.

The Empire State Building was lit in blue & white pinstripes in his honor.

Mayor De Blasio  ordered all flags in NYC to be lowered to half-mast

for a day of tribute.

Berra’s sayings and comments were known as  .. Yogi-isms

They were humorous, sometimes contradictory , but always

had a message, and a wisdom to them.

His most famous Yogi-ism is …

” It aint over till it’s over ”

And for Yogi it will never be “over”, because he will always be

quoted, remembered and beloved not only as a Hall of Fame

Baseball player , but as war hero and a ..  National Treasure.
